Measurement ranges and accuracy

Updated onSeptember 8, 2026

Aidlab 2 measures ECG, respiration, motion, skin temperature, electrodermal activity (EDA), sound level and location. The sampling rate, resolution and range of each signal are listed below.

These measurements are informational and are not intended for diagnosis or treatment. See Intended use and safety.

Signal Source Sampling Rate Resolution Range
1-Lead ECG Sensor 250 Hz1 24-bit ±0.4 V (0.8 V peak to peak)
Respiration Sensor 50 Hz 24-bit 0-8k Ω chest impedance2
Accelerometer 50 Hz per axis 16-bit ±4 g
Gyroscope 50 Hz per axis 16-bit ±2000 dps
Magnetometer 50 Hz per axis 16-bit ±4900 μT
Skin Temperature Sensor 0.1 Hz 0.01°C 0.0°C to 85.0°C5
EDA Sensor 10 Hz 12-bit 1.2-100 µS3
Microphone4 20 Hz (sound level) 1 dB 30-120 dB

ECG and respiration accuracy

Aidlab 2 measures ECG and respiration from the chest. Respiratory rate is calculated from transthoracic impedance: small changes in the electrical resistance of chest tissues during breathing.

At rest, chest impedance is about 500 Ω for a 64 kHz test signal. During breathing, it usually changes by 0.2-5 Ω peak to peak. Aidlab 2 measures impedance with a 64 kHz signal at 24-bit resolution, in steps of about 0.004 Ω, and uses these changes to calculate respiration rate.

Signal quality can be influenced by several external conditions, so check fit and contact before starting a measurement.

Location

The GNSS receiver calculates your position once per second. Each position includes latitude, longitude, altitude, speed and heading. Accuracy depends on how clearly the receiver can see the sky.

Skin temperature

Read more about skin temperature measurement here.

1 The ECG sampling rate on Aidlab 2 is fixed at 250 Hz. Changing it, as on Aidlab, is not supported yet.

2 This range covers the baseline impedance of the chest. The respiration signal shows the filtered changes around this baseline, in ohms.

3 EDA is reported as skin conductance in microsiemens (µS). The range is the calibrated one, from 10 kΩ to 820 kΩ of skin resistance; readings outside it are extrapolated. See Electrodermal activity.

4 There is no direct output of the microphone; it is used solely to measure ambient noise levels. This means that only the sound level can be read, not the actual audio signal. Aidlab 2 has two microphones and reports the louder of the two. The level is an estimate, not a calibrated sound level meter reading.

5 Accuracy is ±0.1°C between 0°C and 50°C.
